Hardware Engineer (Mixed-Signal & PCB Design)

Hardware Engineer (Mixed-Signal & PCB Design)

HQ – Central London

Salary – starting at £40k up to £55k – DOE

The Role

Logic Recruiting are looking for a skilled Hardware Engineer to lead the design and development of sophisticated mixed-signal electronic systems. You will be the bridge between digital and analogue worlds, taking functional requirements from concept all the way to high-quality PCBA implementation.

This is a hands-on role where you will balance high-level system architecture with the "nitty-gritty" of signal integrity, prototyping, and manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-End Design: Translate complex functional requirements into robust PCBA designs, managing the full lifecycle from schematic capture to manufacturing data generation.
  • Precision Layout: Execute PCB design and layout with a rigorous focus on signal integrity, optimal routing, and miniaturization.
  • Prototyping & Validation: Build, test, and debug prototypes. You aren't afraid to pick up a soldering iron to fix an error or modify a board.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with software and mechanical teams to ensure seamless integration of electronics into larger system architectures.
  • Manufacturing Liaison: Generate all necessary fabrication documentation and engage with suppliers to ensure component availability and production quality.

Technical Requirements

  • Education: Degree in Electrical Engineering (or a related field) or equivalent substantive industry experience.
  • Mixed-Signal Expertise: A deep understanding of analogue and digital circuit principles and how they interact.
  • Tooling Mastery: Proficiency with professional PCB design suites (e.g., Altium) and simulation tools (e.g., SPICE).
  • Lab Proficiency: Expert-level use of oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, and network analysers for validation and troubleshooting.
  • Advanced PCB Techniques: Proven experience with rigid-flex design, including stack up management, bend radius control, and impedance matching.
  • Lifecycle Management: Familiarity with the journey from initial design through to long-term production support.

Preferred Specialist Skills

  • High-Speed Digital: Experience with USB 2.0 (High Speed/Audio Class 2), I2S, and TDM data paths.
  • Signal Integrity: Advanced knowledge of clocking, jitter management, and power integrity for high-speed interfaces.
  • Audio & Networking: Familiarity with Audio over IP (Dante/AVB), Ethernet, and low-phase-noise timing strategies.
  • Compliance & DFX: Awareness of EMC/Safety standards (EN 55032/62368-1) and a "Design for Everything" mindset (DFM, DFA, and DFT).
  • Automation: Basic scripting skills for bench testing and repeatable validation.
